In 2004, I unwittingly began the Red Shoe Journey after taking a photograph of my feet in red shoes wearing rainbow socks. I was on a train from Paris to Giverny and the train seats facing each other were bright orange. My feet were propped up on the facing seat. The photo, which astounded me, set in motion many journeys with my red shoes and a variety of colorful socks. The red shoes made it to such iconic places as Stonehenge and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Even North Beach sidewalks with Elvis Christ’s witty words were a part of my journey with the red shoes. Now with the pandemic, I am unable to travel the world as I once did, so excited to find a next red shoe moment. The images say it best.

The second side, Feeling Hollow, is how I am feeling without social contact and friendly encounters that fill me up and flesh out my being. I am fine in the peace and quiet of home but I feel hollowed out by so much solitude.
